If you have been a photographer longer than 20 years or have a good understanding of optics and which manufacturers are the best then you will understand why this news is so dreamy.
Canon makes great lenses and their optics are top notch. But there is top notch and there is top notch. Carl Zeiss has been known for decades to make some of the best lenses known to man. If you you are a medium format shooter with a Hassy then you probably own one or two Carl Zeiss lenses.
They are that good. Not only optic wise but build wise. Carl Zeiss are probably the Rolls Royce of lenses.
So when Zeiss announces that they will be making two lenses for Canon DSLR (or any EF mount Canon camera) it made me drool from both sides of the mouth.
The first two lenses (and I say that because I am hoping for more) are the Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZE and the Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 ZE. Both lenses are manual focus only so they will probably appeal to the old school purists out there. They will go on sale later this year for $660 for the 50mm and $1170 for the 85mm.
Check out DPReview.com for more details on each lens.
Why is it that I love uboxing videos so much? They are by far the silliest things that the internets has ever come up. You sit there and watch someone take a product out of the box and show it to you. I think it has something to do with the whole Xmas morning, opening your presents, and taking it out of the box nostalgia.
Regardless, Jon Reed over at NikonD700 has an uboxing video of the new Nikon D700 (makes sense considering their web site name.) I am this close to dumping Canon and going with Nikon. First the D3 came out and now the D700. Both cameras are almost flawless.
